The Town has an opportunity to enhance the vitality and mobility of the historic Shawsheen Village. The project focuses on Route 133 (Lowell Street) which is a major arterial route running through the heart of a dynamic, growing area of the Merrimack Valley. Not only will this improve mobility along the corridor, it will provide an opportunity to re-imagine Shawsheen Village. There are many natural and historic resources that are unique to Shawsheen and this project aims to uncover and highlight them to revitalize an important area in our community.
The project limits will extend approximately 1.25 miles, from West Parish to Shawsheen Village
Include upgrades at the intersections with Beacon Street/Shawsheen Road and Main Street (Route 28)
Improve safety and roadway capacity
Introduce bicycle accommodations, ADA-accessible sidewalk and crosswalks, and more.

The Merrimack Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization makes decisions about how Federal transportation funds will be used in the region for planning, construction, transit services and more. With input from community officials, members of the public and transportation advocates, the MVMPO implements the regional transportation planning process for the Merrimack Valley region. Please review the DRAFT Development TIP 2024-2028 and provide comments.
